Panama 4

This morning, Carri, Jason and I loaded up in a cab with Kylie and headed over to the Parque Natural Metropolitano for another hike. Autumn needed a bit more me time, so she stayed behind at the hotel. We pretty much had the whole park to ourselves with the exception of a VERY intense bird watcher and a couple of other normal folks. We didn't see many animals, but the scenery was beautiful.

 Beautiful morning for a hike

Panama - Day 3

Today we took it easy after our big adventure yesterday. First stop was comida tipica for breakfast at the super delicious and super cheap El Trapiche. Afterwards, Carri, Jason and I hiked up to the top of Cerro Ancon while Kylie napped and Autumn had some me time. We spent the afternoon enjoying the pool and ordered "Greek" delivery for dinner.

 Guess who liked Mount Bacon?

 YUM!

 To the flag!

Peeping the city through the jungle on our hike.

 View of downtown

 and Casco Viejo

It just wouldn't be Latin America without trudging up
seemingly endless stairs in the heat and humidity!

 Oooh! A sloth!

 Commemorative Plaque!

 The son of Mothra!

View to the Canal and the Miraflores Locks

Jungle flower!

 Pool party!

 Baby swim challenge!

Seriously?? Snow???

Today was the last day Tiffany and the kids were visiting, so, of course we spent the day together!  The plan was to go on a family hike...but there was a rather unpleasant surprise.  Snow.  Accumulating snow on the trail.  !!

Ugh, that is one frosty car!

Dad & Lynn (who are well prepared for a snow walk) & me (who is not).

Eric and Kylie in snowy wood.  Can you spot Kylie??

The snow is so pretty in pictures...not so much in person.

The snowy forest.

Family portrait time (minus Eric & the babes...Eric was our illustrious photographer)!  Everyone say cheese!!

The march forward continues through the snow and all.

My niece picking up moss.  She says she collects it (in her pockets) in case we get lost and need a fire.  Smart kid!

Weird mushrooms in the snow.

Here's my nephew in a hollowed out tree trunk.  He could totally wait out the storm in there!

Yet another weird mushroom in the snow!

The sign marking the trail head.  We were on the Kettle Crest trail, which would have been a really awesome hike had the weather not been so awful...

At the top of the Pass!

Fall colored forest.

I think winter is coming....
