Triumphant Return to VA Beach!

We had a really great time in Virginia Beach relaxing and catching up with old friends!  Per usual, we forgot to take pictures with our friends, but totally remembered to take pictures of all the stuff we saw.  It was so nice to get out of the city for a couple days and relax by the ocean, and since it was the last weekend of the off season, it was even better!  Definitely needed after so much Spanish!!!  It's kind of weird hanging out in VA Beach again, since we used to live there, but it was fun...and we'll probably be back at least once every time we find ourselves back in the DC area.  On this trip we also took the time to stop at Jamestown settlement to learn about our first colony in the New World.

View up the beach, what a lovely (cold) morning!

Enjoying the sun and water

Representing (per usual!) at Jamestown

Reproduction of Native American village at Jamestown.  I want a dwelling like this...so practical!!

Autumn preparing to fire the cannon at the replica Jamestown settlement.

Replicas of the boats the colonists came over on....can you even imagine living on a boat like that for months on end?!  Yikes!!

Guatemala!!

My trip to Guatemala was really fun and interesting...and very good for the Spanish.  Guatemala is a beautiful country with warm people and a vibrant culture.  I'm really glad I had this opportunity to visit.  I was there for 2 weeks, so, as you can imagine, I have hundreds of pictures.  I posted about 30 on Facebook, but here are a few highlights.

Giant flag in the main plaza of Guatemala City
Autumn at Tikal with the main temple
Another, earlier, experimental temple at Tikal
Temples of Tikal poke through the Jungle

The plane of the President of Chile.  Kind of random.

Cemetery in the hillside at Solala.

Coffee, pre-roast.

Streets of Antigua.

I enjoyed my trip to Guatemala very much, and hope to visit again soon!!
