Bath Time!

So we had a big milestone yesterday...Miss Kylie's belly cord fell off!  That means, it's real bath time!!  Sure enough, Kylie hated her first real bath as much as she hated her sponge baths.  Oh well, we like having a clean, good smelling baby, so it is worth the struggle.

Kylie in her tub, looking deceitfully happy.

After the bath, snuggled into her fuzzy blanket.  So cute!!

Visit to Grandmas

Dropped by my mom's house today for a quick visit and breakfast!

Kylie bears a striking resemblance to Auntie Jacquelyn when she was a baby!

Our Daughter the Ham

While recovering in the hospital after Kylie was born a photographer from Bella Baby Photography came to our room for a photo shoot!  It was fun, and the photographer made EVERYONE look good.  Even a splotchy pale baby and a woman recovering from surgery.  That alone was worth every penny!

Kylie, looking thoughtfully into the distance.  Probably thinking of food.

I know this one is supposed to be about the precious little feet and hands, but I love the expression on her face.

The aforementioned talons...they came out triangle shaped.  !!  Probably to inflict the most damage possible.

Guess whose are the blue ones!!  Pretty good considering I had to finish giving myself that manicure while in labor.

La Familia Oakley.

For regular followers of this blog, though we will be posting many pics of the baby on a regular basis (especially in the coming 2 months), do not worry.  We are not shifting the focus of this blog away from travel.  Right now we are not doing a lot of travel (obviously), so we will be writing about the new thing in our lives more.  Once we start moving around again, you can bet you will see the same fun travel posts you are used to...just with a baby in tow!

The Day Our World Changed...a.k.a. Welcome Kylie!

Yesterday morning at 11:55 am it finally happened.  I was painting my fingernails, Eric was outside running...and my water broke.  Just a little, not like the movies.  I called labor and delivery at the hospital in Spokane, and they said to come down...and pack to go home with a baby.  !!  So we looked at each other, looked around, packed half the house and off we went to Spokane.  I was in labor for 22 hours (!!) before my doctor decided a c-section was needed.  Turns out the baby had a GIANT head, and she couldn't get out.

At 10:25 am on September 10th Kylie Lourdes joined our little family.  She was 21" long, 7 lbs 9 oz and had a head circumference of 13.5".  WHAT?!  That giant head had a little cone shaped top from where she had been trying to exit without any luck.  Thankfully I live in the age of modern medicine and I had a doctor who I trusted.  Because of those two factors both Kylie and I came out healthy and strong on the other side.

Miss Kylie's first photo.  I think we're in for a treat :)

 Proud grandparents outside the nursery!

Kylie getting acquainted with her dad.

Welcome baby!

She has ridiculous sharp talons and has been relegated to wearing shirts that won't allow them out.  Kind of like a baby straight jacket.

Eric has successfully located the baby's off switch.

Miss Kylie minutes after her first bath.  She hated every second of it.

Eric and I are thrilled by the arrival of our daughter.  After 8 years of marriage and over 10 years together, we were finally ready to take this big step into parenthood.  We are so excited about the new experiences ahead and to share our lives with our new little one.  Welcome Kylie.

A Few Days in Spokane

So on Wednesday we decided to head down to Spokane, as work on the highway 395 bridge over Lake Roosevelt (also known as the Upper Columbia River) will require a full bridge shutdown on the 5th and 6th.  Counter-measures are necessary, as the detour is 70 miles and an extra hour in labor in the car does not sound like a great plan to me.  We stayed those 2 nights out at Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights.  We had massages, great showers, good food, good company, it was a lot of fun!

On the way to Spokane, we saw this gem.  I'll take a mani-pedi-hot tub chemicals please!

In Spokane we found this fantastic bakery downtown.  There were so many kinds of cupcakes I almost fainted at the sight of them!  They also had many other delicious baked goods (including some spectacular looking Nanaimo bars I'll have to get before I leave the area).  I am a fan!

Yes that is a business called "BBQ's Tanning Beds".  I did not photo shop that.

In baby news, I did not go into labor while the bridge was closed.  In fact, my doctor does not think I will go into spontaneous labor, judging from my exam today.  He thinks I will have to be induced next weekend.  I haven't counted the baby out yet...hopefully she will come on her own.

100,000 Miles

It's a milestone in our lives....

We put every one of those miles on that car.  4 cross-country road trips, countless cross-state road trips, 2 years in Mexico and she still runs like a dream.  We heart you little Saturn!

Holly's Wedding

Today we got to get all dressed up to go celebrate the wedding of Eric's cousin Holly!  Since we so rarely get to attend these types of functions, we were really excited.  However, living abroad has ruined someone's sense of when guests should arrive to a party.  (I'll give you a hint, his name starts with an E!)  After I mentioned we might need to be very prompt to this event, as the invitation said the wedding was at 3:00, Eric laughed in my face!  Hahaha, Autumn, if we listened to you, we would always be the very first one to arrive at any party said he.  So, we arrive at the wedding at a fashionably late 3:20, and we had missed the entire ceremony.  All of it.  The reception was in full swing.  Lesson learned?  I certainly hope so!

Anyway, it was really fun seeing all the family and visiting.  The venue was gorgeously decorated, and the company was fantastic!

All dressed up in goin' to town outfits!

The happy couple, looking fabulous!  Congratulations!!
